Help Us Preserve Our Past and Inspire Future Generations

History is more than a collection of stories—it is the foundation of our community and a legacy worth protecting. The Santa Cruz Valley Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the documents, artifacts, landmarks, and stories that define our region while inspiring a deeper appreciation of local history through educational programs for all ages.

Your support helps safeguard irreplaceable historical treasures, protect significant buildings and sites, expand educational opportunities, and create spaces where our community can learn, gather, and connect with its heritage. From preserving artifacts and installing historical markers to recognizing sites on state and national historic registers, every effort ensures that the rich history of the Santa Cruz Valley is not only remembered but shared with future generations.

Together, we can preserve the stories of yesterday to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

Our Mission

The Society’s mission is to collect, preserve and share the history of Arizona's Santa Cruz Valley/Greater Sahuarita area in an effort to educate future generations and foster a better understanding and appreciation of the values that built our communities and contributed to Pima County’s heritage.

Our Vision

Arizona’s Santa Cruz Valley Historical Society (SCVHS) is dedicated to acquiring structures and artifacts for preservation; digitizing historic photographs, documents and personal narratives for future generations; and promoting educational opportunities to share knowledge of Santa Cruz Valley history with Society members, local children and the community at large.

In pursuit of this vision, SCVHS will:

• Identify, collect and preserve materials related to the history of Sahuarita, Green Valley, Continental, Amado and other rural areas of the Santa Cruz Valley.

• Support research, documentation and interpretation of such historical materials.

• Provide public access to collections of historical materials.

• Reach out to area schools, clubs, organizations and societies to provide educational enrichment.

• Promote discussion and discourse of historical subjects among its members and the community.

Our Program

The Santa Cruz Valley Historical Society’s goals are to:

• Preserve historically significant documents and artifacts related to the history of SCVHS and its residents.

• Develop a deeper interest and knowledge of history through various educational programs for children and adults.

• Coordinate with local administrative bodies to preserve and maintain historical structures and artifacts.

• Provide locations for programs, artifact storage, historical displays, and a meeting place for community groups.

• Facilitate adding structures to the National and State registers of historical places when appropriate.

• Install historic markers to commemorate significant local events, individuals, and structures.

Who do we Serve?

The Society's primary area of historical interest includes the property located within the present-day boundaries of the Sahuarita Unified School District and the Continental Elementary School District, together with their historic communities, settlements, mining districts, ranches, and related cultural resources.

Impact in the Community

SCVHS seeks to be a valued community partner as we endeavor to, “Secure the Future by Preserving Our Past.” We are honored to bring local history to life through our free educational programs. “Museum in Motion” has facilitated hands on learning experiences for hundreds of Valley students while “History All Around” offers an array of adult enrichment opportunities via an organized series of knowledgeable guest presenters.

Our “Stories From the Santa Cruz” YouTube lineup offers unrestricted access to an ever growing archive of digital content and historical markers are being placed throughout the Santa Cruz Valley to showcase important people, places and events.
