Building Strong Youth Through Sports and Purpose
Wisdom Sports & Scholars is a community-based program serving youth across Santa Cruz County, including Rio Rico, Tumacácori, Tubac, and Arivaca. Through sports and mentorship, the program provides young people with a sense of purpose while building life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
By offering positive outlets after school and on weekends, the program helps strengthen both individual growth and community connection. It also works to remove financial barriers by supporting team participation, including tournament and travel expenses.
With support from community partners, Wisdom Sports & Scholars continues to improve its facilities to create a safe, welcoming space for youth and families. The mission remains clear: to empower young people through sports and life-building experiences that inspire confidence and a stronger future.
Our Mission
Our community-based program provides youth with access to sports activities and life building skills giving them a sense of purpose while developing community involvement to increase positive school and weekend interactions.
Our Vision
Despite notable progress, certain goals remain unmet. We are currently unable to complete the construction of a shade structure for the spectator area or purchase a utility tractor necessary for infield maintenance. Additionally, while the vision for a volleyball court and soccer field is still unrealized, our core mission continues unchanged.
Wisdom Sports & Scholars offers a valuable way for adults to stay motivated and active. This year, we successfully covered tournament fees and housing expenses for the Girls 13 and under and Boys 12 and under teams, and purchased t-shirts for both groups. These are goals we continue to accomplish and remain paramount to WSS.
Who Do We Serve?
We serve Santa Cruz County, mainly Rio Rico - population 22,000, Tumacacori - population 400, Tubac - population 1,500 and Arivaca - population 238.
Our Goal
Our goal is to expand our current facilities by building a volleyball court and a soccer field for both children and adults to enjoy. We believe that collaborating with other civic minded organizations, we would be instrumental in bringing this vision to life and enhancing our community's athletic offerings.
Our Impact
Our major success each year is our 3rd of July Firework Display. As Tubac and its surrounding communities do not have a 4th of July display, we are proud to provide a professional pyrotechnic show from a Phoenix-based company, made possible through a generous donation from a wonderful individual.
The event is a true community gathering that includes food trucks, games, and music for everyone to enjoy. This year will mark our 6th annual celebration, and we are hoping to add a petting zoo to the festivities this time around.
We look forward to another successful event for the community.
