Bringing Comfort and Stories to Children in Crisis

The Pajamas and Books for Children in Crisis Program addresses both emotional and developmental needs: pajamas provide warmth and reassurance, while books encourage literacy, learning engagement, and positive routines. Through partnerships with local shelters, foster care agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and first responders, we reach children experiencing homelessness, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and family crisis. These children represent diverse cultural and racial backgrounds. In recent service data, approximately 86% Hispanic, 7% Native American, 5% African American and 2% other populations were served.

Since 2013, we have provided more than 73,000 children in crisis with a new pair of pajamas and book to call their own. In 2026, we aim to reach 7,000 children across Southern Arizona, including 2,500 children in living in the Green Valley area. Our Green Valley partners include Amado Food Bank, Arivaca Food Pantry, Arivaca Pre School, Challenger Head Start, Crossroads Mission, The Giving Turtle, Green Valley Food Bank, Madison Head Start, Montessori de Santa Cruz, Nogales Police Department, Rio Rico Head Start, Sahuarita Food Bank, Santa Cruz Family Food Bank, Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department, Sopori Pre School, Western Head Start, and Wrightstown Ridge K-8 School.

Through volunteer support, community partnerships, and targeted outreach, Angel Heart Pajama Project delivers measurable impact by improving emotional well-being, fostering resilience, and promoting literacy among vulnerable children. Each pajama and book set is a tangible expression of care, helping children feel valued, supported, and connected during times of uncertainty.

Our Mission

The mission of Angel Heart Pajama Project is to provide new pajamas and age-appropriate books to children in crisis, from infancy through age 18, living in foster care, emergency shelters, and other unstable environments across Southern Arizona—offering comfort, dignity, and hope during life’s most difficult moments.

Who do we serve?

Angel Heart Pajama Project serves children from infancy through age 18 experiencing crisis throughout Southern Arizona, primarily in the greater Tucson area including surrounding Cochise, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma counties.

Ange heart supports children in foster care, emergency and domestic violence shelters, transitional housing, and other unstable living situations. Many children served have experienced abuse, neglect, homelessness, or family disruption.

Through partnerships with child welfare agencies, schools, and community organizations, Angel Heart provides comfort and literacy resources that help vulnerable children feel safe, supported, and cared for during difficult transitions.

Our Impact

Since 2013, Angel Heart Pajama Project has made a meaningful impact on children experiencing crisis across Southern Arizona by providing more than 73,000 new pajamas and books to youth in foster care, shelters, and other unstable living situations. These comfort and literacy resources help reduce trauma-related stress, restore dignity, and encourage positive routines that support emotional well-being and learning.

Each year, Angel Heart partners with child welfare agencies, schools, and nonprofit organizations to ensure timely distribution to children at critical moments of need. In 2026, the organization aims to serve 7,000 children, expanding access to essential comfort items and books that promote resilience and literacy engagement.

Key successes include sustained community partnerships, strong volunteer engagement, and a scalable, cost-effective program model that delivers measurable impact—helping vulnerable children feel safe, valued, and supported while strengthening community response to children in crisis.

Our Goals

In 2026, Angel Heart Pajama Project aims to raise the resources needed to serve approximately 7,000 children across Southern Arizona through its Pajamas and Books for Children in Crisis Program. Fundraising efforts support the purchase of new pajamas and age-appropriate books distributed to children in foster care, emergency shelters, and other crisis situations.

To meet growing community need, Angel Heart’s fundraising strategy includes community pajama/book drives, special events, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and individual donations. These efforts ensure every child served receives essential comfort items that promote emotional well-being, dignity, and literacy development.

Funds raised in 2026 will directly expand program reach, strengthen community partnerships, and sustain a volunteer-driven program that delivers immediate and measurable impact to vulnerable children throughout Southern Arizona.

Testimonials

"The children who come into our home often arrive frightened and unsure of what will happen next. The pajamas and books provided through Angel Heart Pajama Project, supported by the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation, create an immediate sense of belonging. It tells them they are welcomed, cared for, and valued. That first night matters more than most people realize."

— Licensed Foster Parent, Green Valley Area.

Six-year-old Ethan was placed in emergency kinship care with his grandmother in the Green Valley community after a sudden family crisis. He arrived with no overnight bag and no bedtime routine to comfort him.

Through a local partner agency supported by funding from the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation, Ethan received a set of soft, child-sized pajamas and a picture book. His grandmother later shared that reading that book together became their new nightly ritual. It helped Ethan feel safe in an unfamiliar situation and gave his grandmother a gentle way to reassure him.

Today, Ethan is adjusting well in school and continues to read before bed. What began as a simple gift became the foundation for stability, bonding, and hope.
